Grandstand’s Visit to Montana

tshirtsLast month we were pleased to attend the Montana Brewers Association 2013 Conference and 5th Annual Fall Festival in Caras Park on the Clark Fork River, in downtown Missoula.

Our West Regional Manager, Dan Cook, arrived on Saturday for the festival, which featured 87 beers from 23 MBA members (including 21 festival-only releases), all ready to embrace the chilly fall air with some beer and revelry. Ranked third in the country for breweries per capita, Montana put forth an impressive variety of craft beer offerings for the more than 2,400 attendees. Congratulations are in order for these Montana customers of ours who won awards at the festival:groupunderlights

Bozeman Brewing – Best Light Ale (Bozone Co-Op Kolsch)

Lewis & Clark Brewing Co. – Best American Wheat (Miners Gold Hefeweizen)

Tamarack Brewing – Best Amber/Red (Yard Sale Amber Ale), & Best Oktoberfest

Bridger Brewing – Best Pale Ale (Lee Metcalf Summer Ale)

lewis&clarkThe 2013 Montana Brewers Association Conference followed the festival on Sunday and Monday, and featured panel discussions on everything from distribution and marketing to Montana’s agriculture and sustainable brewing. On Sunday night, everyone was invited to attend a pub-crawl around Missoula, highlighting the city’s growing craft beer industry.

After the festival and conference, Dan dropped in on some of our Montana customers to check out their beer production, take in the scenery, and sample their offerings. Tamarack Brewing Co. was founded in Lakeside, Montana, but their Missoula location was impressive and delicious (if you stop by, be sure to try the bison burger!). Dan also checked in on both BigSkyKettle House locations, which are just a few miles apart from each other due to compliance with Montana liquor laws. No trip to Montana would be complete without a visit to Big Sky Brewing in Missoula, and Dan was able to get some great shots of their large-scale operation. Before heading out of town and closing a great weekend, Dan made sure to stop at Draught Works, whose pin-up inspired designs are quite the eye-catchers.

Thanks to all of Montana’s craft breweries that shared a great weekend with us. We look forward to the festival and conference in 2014!
